At the moment in which it has been decided to acquire a dog, one of the first questions that appear is the sex of the dog. Frankly, the simplest thing is that you decide for yourself, by intuition, since even the experts do not agree.
Some say that the male is better because he learns more quickly, has more resistance and does not present the inconvenience of the female with the periods of heat and the consequent losses and the dangers of reproduction that they entail. It is also said that the female is earlier, and faithful than the male.
There are also those who prefer to acquire a young dog, and even dogs already started or pre-trained, and some people prefer adult dogs, already trained by a professional.
In any case, remember that before deciding to acquire a dog it is essential to take into account the character of the future owner and his age, the usefulness that the dog wants to be given (company, hunting, defense, etc.) and the characteristics of the dog. animal, since, although with adequate training and training almost all dogs can perform all the functions for which they are trained, it should not be forgotten that certain breeds of dogs have natural characteristics that favor the development of some activities to the detriment of others.
Knowing which specimen is the best, if it will be a good animal for agility, some attitudes and characteristics that can facilitate the choice can be taken into account. One of the first elements that should be assessed is the genealogy of the dog itself. Having parents who have good characteristics will make the litter as healthy and appropriate to the standard as possible.
However, among the members of a litter itself it is very difficult to distinguish, and even less when they are puppies, which will be the best specimens. One of the tricks to be able to choose better from among the members of the same litter is to observe them carefully, speaking to each and every one, seeing their behavior, clapping loudly to observe their reactions and, if possible, watching them eat.
At this time, one who has more difficulties in accessing food can be ruled out and it will not be, in principle, a bad choice to stay with the most awake, the first to arrive at the feeder and the one who maintains his position in front of the rest of the siblings.
However, it depends on the utility we want to give you may be too dominant. Once the puppy is at home he begins his education and the setting to the place. The first moment of arrival home is very important. Nothing better than food to establish a hierarchy, the owner will be the only one who gives food to the dog, and will also be the one who chooses the moment in which he should take the animal for a walk.
The dog will understand that although all the members of the family want it, its owner and protector is the boss, a single boss, to whom he owes the utmost obedience and respect and to whom he will offer his absolute fidelity and friendship.
One of the definitive tests will be to place you with your dog in a corner of the room, and someone else calls him from the opposite corner. When the dog tries to go, we will say No safely and will retain it until he understands the order.
As the first times the animal will not be accustomed to this order, it must be retained by hand, forcing it to remain in place while the family member continues to call it, while the owner will continue repeating and has "No!" Several times. Noting the pressure of the hand on the animal. After several attempts, the dog will end up understanding the order.
Once this test has been passed, it will be time to move on to the second phase, when, after several, (No!), The dog owner will say “Now!” And let the dog go to the relative's call, pushing him with the If necessary, the exercise should also be repeated several times so that it is fixed in the dog's memory, demonstrating, in addition, that he cannot act as he wishes, but must do so according to rules, the first of which is the Obedience Don't forget that patience is essential in every learning process.
The dog's choice
The first advice for all those who wish to acquire a dog is that it is their duty to read one or several good manuals that talk about the dog in general and especially its behavior and psychology. In many of them there is talk of the option of acquiring the dog in a hatchery, although from our website we would like to encourage you to go to a shelter or shelter, before going to a hatchery, since they do not only have adult dogs They also have puppies that we can teach from an early age and start them in the canine sport of agility.
Another important advice that should be followed is to read the more better about the different breeds of dogs in order to know their particular characteristics, since knowing them will know better if they can adapt to the function that each one wants their future dog to perform, in our case, to be a true athlete.
It is no less important to know that all dogs, whatever their size and shape, are governed by rules that nature has created over the centuries and that in some cases, such as that of breed dogs, only For a century, they have begun to be selected to perform a certain type of activities. Therefore, it should be remembered that several aspects are influenced by the character of every current dog, namely: - inheritance, both genetic and historical, as well as the specialization to which the animal has been subjected due to the action taken by Breeders,
We have to say that there is no "best breed" but the most appropriate breed for a given activity, which must also include a complete analysis of where the dog will live, in what environment, with how many people and what characters they have, the weather, the possibilities to perform.
On the contrary, if a future owner has already decided on the breed and wants nothing more than a confirmation of his qualities by the expert, no matter how much he tries to change his mind, little will be achieved. But returning to the problem of choice, both in the case that you let yourself be advised and in the case that you decide for yourself the race you want, and even if you venture to choose the specimen without help, it is convenient that you take into account a series of previous issues that every future dog owner should consider.
Obviously, a person who lives in the city will not buy a hunting dog, nor a person who fears that they will steal will be done with a small dog, but problems can arise if it is a dog of company For example, anyone who wants to always keep the house tidy and clean should forget about dogs that lose hair practically throughout the year. If you are a mountain and ski lover, you should not become dogs that can not stand the cold and vice versa: never have an animal of Nordic origin or very cold climates in a place where in summer they easily exceed 40 ° temperature .
Another effort that the owner must make is that of imagination. Dogs are not always puppies, and certain breeds reach large or perhaps medium-sized but strongly. It's something similar to thinking about how you look in five, ten or fifteen years. If the images match the reality of the probable future, your imagination will also help you choose the most appropriate breed.
With all this we only want to warn that the choice of the dog must be the result of a deep meditation, an act of mature and studied reflection, since a dog lives between fifteen and twenty years and goes through the three stages: puppy, adult and elderly . In the latter, the difficulties in maintaining the form will be greater, and then he will need even more affection and friendship, something that the dog will never have failed to provide throughout his life.

Male or female?
In this case, the possibilities are only reduced to two, but they continue to represent an important problem for all those who consider buying a dog. Sometimes, a complementary copy of one that already exists is sought and the questions that arise are related to the compatibility or incompatibility of having two males, two females or female and male together. Other times, questions are raised regarding cleanliness, the ability of both sexes to store the house, to hunt, to defend its owner, etc. In order to guide you on these and other issues, it is worth recalling some points briefly.
As for the size, the males are larger, they impose more if what is sought is a guard dog, but the difference in size between male and female is insignificant if the sizes between breeds are compared.
Regarding cleanliness, it should also be noted that dogs that drool, for example, few differences represent with respect to sex. Also in this case the main difference is found when comparing different races. As for the mantle, males generally have more hair and that can be inconvenient depending on what circumstances during the time of molt. In any case, with respect to the latter, there are greater differences between races than between both sexes of the same race.
At what age to acquire the dog?
In principle, if what you want is to train a dog on your own, which is absolutely your work, it is best to acquire a puppy for two or three months. Although in some cases in some cases it may be convenient for them to be older. For example, if you do not have much time to train and want a guard dog, hunting, or with special skills, it will be better to acquire it for just under a year. Also the rescue dogs or laszarillos must be acquired already adults, as in the majority of cases of dogs of exhibition or work, or when the adult of race is a gift if it is not allowed to buy a puppy. It is also convenient to buy an adult dog in the case of older people, since it will not require training that it will already have, and will not need to perform as much exercise as a young dog.
Buy, adopt: store, hatchery, advertisement, protective?
The economic issue is a separate issue, especially if it is a question of acquiring a child of champions, with certificates of origin, free of malformations (such as hip dysplasia, which some breeds are conducive to suffer) and good character.
A puppy of a friend or a gentleman who has made an announcement cannot offer any security either as to the character of the animal, nor about the possibility of hip dysplasia, or of the conditions in which the animal has raised, nor of so many other aspects.
However, as not everyone can access to buy the dog in a hatchery of the country of origin of the breed, not even in an accredited hatchery of the country itself, sometimes they resort to this type of purchase-sale.
There are no sale dogs or real bargains. For little money, sometimes an excellent adult can be acquired because surely his current owner cannot take care of him, but he will never get a high level puppy at low cost, if they offer it he is possibly sick or has another problem.
It is also worth knowing that a breeder (the one who simply breeds dogs, whether they are good or not) is not the same as a kennel, since the latter is recognized by the Royal Central Society for the Promotion of Canine Breeds of Spain (RSCFRCE) and therefore it will have a pedigree (the last name of the dog) and also certain guarantees, although sometimes they can still be found with surprises.
At least half of the dogs in a hatchery participate or have participated in exhibitions, and this is found in the grade book, which must also be requested.
Both the kennel and the dogs must be well cared for, clean and healthy.
Puppies should not be sold for less than two months and must have at least been vaccinated twice (parvovirosis and trivalent), vaccinations that must be noted on a special card.

|Razas muy territoriales||Razas poco territoriales|
|Chow chow||Basset hound|
|German shepherd||Golden retriever|
|Schnauzer miniatura||Bulldog inglés|
|Fox terrier||Setter irlandés|
